Public health measures in Astoria

The MPH in me loves seeing signs like this one (spotted next to Henry Thoreau Elementary School on 30th Ave):

A little background

My husband and I recently made the move from "the city" (Manhattan) out to Astoria and discovered a new world. Always being adventurous and having a love of travel, we quickly realized that this neighborhood was a perfect fit for us!

Astoria truly epitomizes the phrase 'melting pot' with its residents spanning every pocket of the world. Our grocery store alone carries (and boasts) full lines of food from Greece, India, the Middle East, Brazil, 10 (yes, 10) hispanic countries, and more (in addition to a full traditional grocery store). Where else but Queens can you find this much diversity in such a small confined area?!

From Greek music festivals on the corner to our local European-style cafe to experimenting with all sorts of new cuisines, this year will be filled with many observations and adventures! Stay tuned!
